Kinja'd!!!

Apparently this was a thing. It was made in 1991, and it had suspension made by lotus? (Wut?). It's for sale on ebay now for a very affordable price. Tell me what you know of this object.

They're interesting cars. But from people I spoke to who owned them, parts are expensive/harder to come by and the reliability/durability isn't up to Honda/Toyota levels.

Wasn't it also built under GM ownership?

Oh hell, yes you should snap it up! Isuzu made some fun as hell little cars back then, and the Stylus and I-Mark had suspensions tuned by Lotus. A buddy of mine in NC had an I-Mark and it was an out and out blast to drive.

Get thee to that Isuzu and test drive it, post haste. It'll definitely put a smile on your face

You're thinking the Piazza Turbo.

GM rebadged them as Geo's in the US

I'm pretty sure that's an Isuzu Impulse with four doors, or at least all the trim and the engine is the same. probably the same 'tuned by Lotus' suspension as well. Makes me a bit nostalgic. I remember loving my Impulse, but I was young and I think I would have loved any car that was had any pretensions to sportiness. It was fun to hit that red line, though, and if I remember correctly oversteer was possible with a lift of the right foot. That being said, the 1.6 isn't the most powerful of engines, so I wouldn't expect any miracles out of it.

Parts will be a little harder to come by but I don't remember them being any more unreliable than any other Japanese import at the time.

VW's of that era were the cars with constant problems

Suspension by Lotus, yes - Lotus did a lot of work with other manufacturers to improve the handling of their cars, such as Isuzu, DeLorean and Proton.

You found the most generic front end of all time. I imagine the birth of this car's aesthetics is as follows:

"Just make it look like car" said the CEO

"Ok" the design team said.

And thus the Stylus was born.

Meh. If it were the fastback version and the price were right AND condition was impeccable, maybe:

Even Hyundai c.1998 was making claims like "suspension by Porsche" for their Tiburon. Not that the Tib' was a bad car (quite good really) but a Porsche it ain't.

Avoid.

My parents had one from brandnew in 1991, it was the Isuzu Stylus XS. It had the Lotus tuned suspension and everything. It was a peppy little car, I think it was around 112-120hp out of the little 4cyl. There were two major issues, one was the thin metal they used for the body panels. If you sneezed near it, it would dent.

When I turned 16 I drove the car and smashed it up twice, both times we fixed it and put it back on the road. But the other major issue was the price of parts. Any part for this car was expensive, some of them were interchangable with GEO parts but for the most part nothing was in stock. This was due to the car being rare. I think we had one of 6 or 7 in Halifax, NS.

I did love this car, we had it on the road from 1991 to 2003. The engine was still going strong with 160,000km on it but the body was clapped out bad. It was undercoated every year, but rust still found its way in.

I still look them up on Ebay everyonce and a while, thinking that I should scoop one up if the price is right. It was an amazing handling little 4cyl FWD car. And you could smoke alot of little Cavalier/Civics/Corollas off the line. I miss that car.

I think GM had a stake in the company, but didn't own them outright.

Reminds me of the front of a B13 Sentra SE-R.

They have nice bucket seats in them. One of my friends yanked one of the seats from a pink n' pull, then mounted it on an office chair frame and put it in his man cave.
